Sweat… Sleep… Repeat…

How to catch more zZz….

Even with the best diet and fitness routine, if your sleep is off, your goals will not be achieved. Here @bournrelentless offers some expert tips for a good night sleep whilst training.

Eat more Protein.

Studies have found that consuming the right amount of protein as part of a whole food, minimally processed diet, can improve sleep quality for middle-age adults. This sleep quality is better compared to those who lost the same amount of weight while consuming a less than ideal amount of protein.

Drink more in the Morning.

As you eat healthier fluids, especially water plays a major role in your success. Many people increase their water intake, but drinking a lot before bedtime can lead to a disturbed sleep. To combat this make sure you are drinking your additional liquids first thing in the AM.

Exercise early or opt for Yoga.

The Struggle Is Real

You will never figure out who you are and what you’re made of in the midst of success. The real you won’t surface when life is calm, cool, and comfortable. You will only see the true image of who you are when you allow yourself to experience the struggle. Whether it’s on the way up, or on the way down, the struggle is there to show you, prove to you, or remind you, exactly what your capable of, which will always exceed where you’re at, and what you thought.
The struggle is real. It brings out the realness in all of us. When we are just starting out, it shows us what real work looks like and that we always have more to give. When we start reaching our goals, it shows us the real value is not in the achievement, it’s in the work it took to get there. And when we think we are at the top of our game, and we start getting a little arrogant, complacent, or even lazy, it brings us back to reality, shows us humility, and can reignite that fire to achieve through adversity.
Don’t fear your struggle, be real with it. Whatever your struggle is, don’t look at it in terms of what it is keeping you from, look at it in terms of what it is giving you, because it is giving you so much more than just a hard time. It is giving perspective to your life, value to your achievements, and a reality check to your ego, which are all essential pieces to the puzzle of success. If you are in the struggle, embrace it. If you are hiding from it, go find it. And if you don’t think you need it, that’s when you need it the most. Life Unmasked

Whether it’s the goals we want to achieve, a life we see for ourselves, or simply wanting to escape our current situation, our minds can often get away from where we’re at and who we are. We become so focused on where we want to be, and all of the problems just getting there could solve for us, we start covering up who we are in order to fit the narrative of that place we see in our mind. This can all lead to feeling perpetually unfulfilled as you start obtaining the “what” without understanding your “why”.
“Wherever you go, there you are” as Confucius put it. Or in other words, you can run, you can hide, and you can fake the funk all you want, but at the end of the day, no matter where you are and what you do, it’s still you behind that mask, waiting for you to face yourself. Chase your dreams, pursue your goals, and work like hell to improve your situation, but don’t just do it to run from yourself. Do it to confront yourself.
Live your life unmasked, free yourself from the façades, and start dealing with who, what, and where you are so you can start becoming who you want to be, doing what you’re meant to do, where you want to do it. You can escape the people, places, and things, but you can never escape yourself. So why try? You are always going to be there. So you might as well get used to yourself, because you can never be happy with where you are, until you can learn to embrace who you are. – CPT Ryan

Light Your Way Out

If you know you want to change your situation, if you know you’re not where you want to be, if you know you want more from life but you don’t know where to find the motivation…you’re not looking hard enough. It’s everywhere. When you are in a bad place in life, or simply cannot stand the norm any longer, everything you look at, every hour, of every day, should be a stark reminder as to why you need move forward, simply because you are surrounded by an environment you no longer want to be in.
You are not a product of your environment, your environment is a product of you. So if it feels like your world is beating you down, the walls are closing in on you, and you have become trapped by your reality, start drawing power from those feelings instead of letting them render you powerless. There is an immense pool of untapped strength in those places, situations, and monotonous routines you want to escape, as they all unleash our most basic survival instincts once we finally decide enough is enough.
Don’t surrender to your surroundings. Seize them. Own them. Let them build you into what you can truly become instead of letting them tear you down into what you never became. Use their fuel to ignite your fire to create change, blaze a new trail, and burn down the walls built by “the way it’s always been”. And when that fire starts to dull, and your motivation wanes; stop, look around, and ask yourself if where you’re where you’ve always wanted to be. When the answer is no, strike a match, and get back to the grind, because the light at the end of the tunnel can only be lit by your flame.

Regret-able

Regret. I may have you, but you are far from having me. Sometimes I see you at every turn, and sometimes you’re just a distant memory. But you’re always there. Just waiting to remind me of what was, what could have been, and what may never be. Although there are times when you torment me, you have also freed me more than you’ll ever know, because it was you who freed me from myself, my limits, and my fears.

All those times I didn’t know if I could try again…you were there to remind me why I should. All those times I was too scared to take that blind leap of faith…you were there to remind me of how I’d feel if I didn’t. Those few times I hit rock bottom, rock bottom so bad that it felt like even hope had turned its back on me…only you were left to will me to move forward, one painstaking inch at a time. And when I succeed…that’s when you are the loudest, proving to me that you, and all your forms, are why I’m here today.

 

Regret, I’m convinced you are one of the most powerful and misunderstood forces on this earth. You have been the cause of many great tragedies and triumphs alike. You have humbled the strong, emboldened the weak, and provided the world with a sense of perspective. So Regret, I’m pretty glad I have you. In all actuality, I need you. But know that you will never…ever…have me; because you may be all powerful, but watch your back, because so am I.

Out Of The Darkness

No different than the night sky reveals the stars, the moon, and the wonders of the universe, the dark times you encounter in your life will reveal a side of you which you never knew existed. We fear the dark. We fear what it represents, we fear what it shrouds, and we fear the blindness that comes with it. Conversely, we love the light because for its predictability, normalcy, and far reaching sight. When it comes down to it, darkness exposes a vulnerability which we are extremely uncomfortable with, but in reality it exposes so much more.
The light shrouds from us what we are truly capable of. It hides our strength, our will, our determination, and even our compassion for others. You are going to go through dark times whether you like it or not, whether you’re prepared or not, and whether or not it’s convenient for you. You can hide from it, ignore it, try to get your friends to face it with you, but in the end it’s on you to walk into the darkness and search for what lies beyond its veil. It is there, far from the comforting rays of light, where you will find what you are actually made of.

 

You were not built just to merely exist, you were literally born to survive, adapt, overcome, and repeat. Whatever dark times you may be going through right now, or will go through in the future, do just that…go through them. Don’t get caught just staring into the darkness, because it’s all you will ever see. Go through it. There will always be growth, there will always be lessons, and there will always be light on the other side, but you have to be willing to go through it…albeit one small step at a time.

You Are Not Done

You are not done. Not even close. You may have fallen or peaked, lost or won, but no matter the case, you are not done. Life is nothing but ups and downs, twists and turns, and if you are living with fire, you’re bound to get burned. But don’t let the trials dampen your flame, because in the end, they’re never to blame. So pick yourself up, and rage like the sun, because I can tell you for sure, that you are not done.
You’re in a story which must be lived to be told, and it may not be clear until you’re wise, gray, and old. But the very last page ends the same as page one, you may be a lot of things, but you are not done. You are not done ’til you draw you last breath, and even with that, there is life after death. Because after your gone, and become part of the earth, your story lives on, and gives new stories birth. Never forget, through the joy and the hurt, you have to wake up tomorrow, and complete your life’s work.
 
You are here for a reason, to find your passionate purpose, and only hard work will let passion surface. You’re on an endless search to find your life’s grind, and to create a passion which can consume all your time. Try just for a moment to see through your mind’s eye, and it is from that point where you can begin your climb high. You’re not just a passenger on a leisurely ride, so grab the keys and throw the car in drive. There is never a promise it will be easy or fun, but I can promise you this…you are not done. – CPT Ryan

Houston Clean-Up Day + Donate

Holy Moly! I missed A LOT in the Big Brother House – most crucial, not one, not two, but three major hurricanes.

The devastation I’ve seen in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and many more breaks my heart.

That’s why I’m teaming up with WAG to participate in their Clean-Up Day in Houston on October 22nd. We want to help as many people as possible and get our hands dirty in the process.

In conduction with the clean-up day, we are raising funds to donate directly to The Red Cross (and WAG will match up to 10K) Woop woop!

Be Someone Who

Starting today, don’t just be someone…be someone who. Don’t just be someone aimlessly wandering through life, taking it as it comes, lost in a revolving door going to nowhere. Be someone who is unwaveringly guided by a set of core values, sticking to them through thick and thin, no matter the odds or adversity. Don’t just be someone standing idly by, simply watching life happen, taking it as it come. Be someone who takes action. Someone who steps up when everyone else is afraid, or nobody else is willing to, and starts the movement against the odds and impossibility.
Starting today, don’t just be someone sitting in silence, being told this or told that, mindlessly obeying orders without your best interest in mind. Be someone who speaks up. Be the one who tells the world what you want from it, voices your ideas about positive change and growth, and speaks up for others when they can’t speak for themselves. Furthermore, be someone who is a protector. Be someone who is not only willing to fight their own battles, but also fearlessly goes to war in defense of others, with a greater hunger for victory than if it was merely fighting for yourself.
And starting today, don’t just be someone with a cold shoulder and a blank stare, who rattles the earth with confidence, fire, and action. Be someone who also walks with gentle compassion, a knowing empathy, and a sincere kindness. Be someone who people are excited to see walk in the room. Be someone who everyone wants to watch their back, who everyone wants by their side, and who everyone knows will lead from the front when the time is right. Starting today, make just being someone a thing of the past, and start being someone who leaves a legacy that will last.

Life Unfiltered

Everything we touch today comes with a filter. From our pictures and videos, to what we say and the feedback we get, all the way to how we see ourselves and how we let the world see us. Some are societal, and some are self-inflicted, but more and more we are choosing to ignore the reality in favor of the filter. The problem with the filter, however, is that it doesn’t really change anything, it just strains out what you don’t want to see, be seen, or in some cases, deal with.
You can’t change what you aren’t willing to accept, and you can’t accept what you aren’t willing to see. At some point, the disparity between the filter and the reality becomes so big, that all you are left with is fiction. Remember that progress is rooted in reality, so if you are scared, ashamed, embarrassed, or nervous about what’s behind that filter, realize that whatever it is that makes you feel that way is going to stay right there until you are ready to take the filter off, and stare all that is real square in the face.
Every once in a while, we need a reminder that filters actually exist to highlight or enhance what is good as opposed to covering up what is bad. If everything looks great on the outside, but you are still in unfulfilled turmoil on the inside, try living life unfiltered for a while. It may be humbling, discouraging, or downright depressing at first, but soon enough those feelings will be overtaken by progress, and the only thing left to be filtered will be the haters, the naysayers, and the doubters. – CPT Ryan
