Shadow Of A Doubt

I’ve been a little off lately, so I need you to doubt me. I’ve been feeling tired, drained, and run down, so help me out and just doubt me. I’ve been questioning the path I’m on, the choices I’ve made, and committing self-sabotage, so all I need you to do is doubt me. I’m starting to think maybe I’m not good enough, smart enough, in shape enough, or as good as the competition, so please, I am begging you, just doubt me. And I’m beginning to lose faith in my dreams, my vision, my passion, and my plan, so just do me a favor…and doubt me.

Doubt me now so I can rekindle that fire I once had when I first set out on my journey. Doubt me so I can stop focusing on my own self-doubt, and start focusing on proving you wrong. Doubt me so I will go back to the grind of working day and night, fueled by the fatigue of outworking you, while I forge my new reality. And tell everyone else you know to go ahead and start doubting me too, because eventually I’m going to get tired of proving just you wrong. So pack them in all the way up to the nosebleeds and give them some popcorn, I’m gonna need an audience for this one.

Sometimes I get mixed up and start thinking I need your approval more than I need your doubt. Then I remember how little I accomplish when the cards are all stacked in my favor, and everyone is in my corner telling me how great I am. Your approval won’t get me that extra inch, step, mile, or rep. It won’t give me that competitive edge or that chip on my shoulder. And it certainly won’t keep me going when I’m exhausted, broken down, and just want to quit. But your doubt will. So hand it over, I’ve got stuff to do, and I don’t want to leave any doubt that I’m going to get it done. – CPT Ryan

Empower Your Power

You are powerful beyond belief. You are powerful beyond your own belief, and more importantly you are powerful beyond the belief of others. You are so powerful you can guide the future, adapt from the past, and mold the present. You have the power to create reality from thought, and to change reality through action. Your power can even extend beyond your own life, and empower someone else’s, who will undoubtedly go on to empower the life of another, and another, and so on, effectively changing the course of history.

Your mere existence is a miracle which required, at a minimum, the innate and instinctual will to live and survive against all odds. So don’t tell me you can’t fight anymore, you can’t push any harder, or that you have lost belief in yourself and your purpose. Don’t tell me you are being held back by someone else’s lack of belief in you, or that they are holding you back from chasing your dream. And definitely don’t tell me you are powerless to exert your will over your environment, over your reality, your naysayers, or shortcomings. It’s simply not true, because you were born to overcome so much more.

You woke up this morning, which is proof positive that your will to survive is fully intact. We aren’t given much in this life, but the one thing we are given is the power to guide it, survive it, and act upon it. You have lived to fight another day on purpose, because there are still goals you haven’t reached, limits you haven’t pushed, lives you haven’t touched, and haters you haven’t silenced. Empower your power by believing in its existence. Raise it from its dormancy, and let it breath into all that you do. Fuel it with adversity, grow it through accomplishment, and let it live long after your gone by imparting it on to the world while you’re here. But it all has to start with you…believe it or not.

Principle Over Profession

Today’s world is consumed with data. Statistics, percentages, trends, numbers, cost, profit, and all the analysis and armchair quarterbacks you can handle. In the midst of all the data, as you chase the administrative success we can often be measured by, it can become easy to lose sight of what real success is. When you start chasing the profession over your own principles, you are actually sacrificing the fabric of who you are, and what you believe, for success as defined by somebody else’s bottom line.

You define your own success, and it should be so much more than just an equation. The numbers will take care of themselves when you are ready and willing to sacrifice success as someone else may see it, in order to stay true to what you believe. The world won’t remember the bean counters, the clock watchers, and the statisticians, but it will most definitely remember those who chose to be guided by values, defined by character, and fueled by the higher purpose of developing others beyond their perceived limitations.

Administrative success is as fleeting as it is unfulfilling. True success, the kind that leaves people, places, and things better for having been in its presence, and personified by the brave few who are willing to live up to their own principles, is everlasting. Be more than someone’s pawn. Evoke fear in those attempting to sway you from your principles, and instill trust and admiration in those who can see you are fighting for an ideal whose scope goes far beyond a pie chart. Time will forget your profession, but your principles will transcend time, so define them, defend them, and display them, and create your success under your own unit of measure. – CPT Ryan

The Symptoms of Success

Tired. You will be tired. Mind numbingly tired. Late nights, early mornings, punctuated by tossing and turning while your racing mind remembers what it forgot, and creates what you have yet to see. You will be grumpy, cranky, irritable, and hot tempered sometimes. You will be frustrated beyond belief, almost beyond your own personal beliefs. You will be brought to the brink of quitting…regularly. You will obsess, you will overwork, and you will burn out. You will hate it and you will love it all at once, but either way, it will be done with fire and passion.

You will fail. A lot. Like..a lot a lot. You will make small missteps, and you will crash and burn. You will be told it’s not for you, you’re not good enough, and that you’re messing up. You will feel like you’re on the wrong path, you will constantly question yourself, and you will inevitably let the opinions of others chip away at the very fabric of your conscious and your confidence. You will hear “No” more times than you care to count or remember. No you can’t, no you won’t, no this is the way we’ve always done it, and no thanks.

And that’s how you will know. This is success. This is progress. This is development. Success is one of life’s greatest enigmas, because its symptoms are the complete antithesis of what they are perceived to be. If you’re not restless, tired, irritable, failing, questioning yourself, and hearing “No” at almost every turn, then odds are, you’re probably not venturing down the path to success. The symptoms of success are notoriously unsuccessful. Find comfort in these symptoms, because it is through those symptoms that an unrelenting perseverance will be honed, a passion will be forged, a purpose built, and a legacy left, and it will always be worth it, every…single…time. – CPT Ryan

10 Reasons To Work Out That Aren’t Aesthetic

It’s no secret that exercising regularly helps you look good naked.

Most of the time, our drive to start working out or stick with a workout program are based around our aesthetics. We want a tighter tush, rock hard abs, lean legs, toned arms, etc. Today, I want to talk about the many reasons to work out that DON’T have to deal with how you look….

Here’s a short list for you to start thinking about:

1. It wakes your ass up

Jumping out of bed and hitting a quick workout first thing in the morning can wake not only your body up, but your mind as well. There’s nothing like starting your day with a good sweat and high energy!

2. It’s a complete mood changer

Anytime I’m in a bad mood working out makes me feel cheerier. There’s something about working on your body, feeling sexy & strong that can completely turn your day around. + working out releases endorphins which by nature make you happier!

3. You sleep better

Do I need to say more? Catching more quality z’s is highly sought after. Exercising for 1 hour daily can help regulate your sleeping patterns and help you to achieve more restful sleep.

4. You’re able to focus longer & be more creative

I guarantee you’ll have 10+ new ideas about your most stressful work project or solution to a major problem in your life by the end of your workout session. Exercise gets your MIND working & there’s always a positive result.

5. It’s empowering & uplifting

Working out can leave you feeling empowered by honing in on discipline and time management skills, accomplishing new goals and feeling INVINCIBLE.

6. It gives you an instant energy boost

One of the BEST ways to beat fatigue and to boost energy is to exercise MORE.

7. It allows you to see what your body can DO

Pushing our body to it’s limits and seeing the amazing things our “machine” is capable of is quite gratifying. Working out increases your confidence and heightens your level of self-respect for your body and all that it can do.

8. It changes your cravings to HEALTHY choices

As you begin working out, you’ll realize you start to crave bad choices less and less. After all, no one wants to ruin their hard workout with a sweet treat or blow it on a cheat meal.

Sweat Equity

How much are you willing to invest into your passion? What are you willing to endure in the name of good faith just to be in the presence of your purpose, knowing full well these infantile steps could go on for miles before you can pick up the pace and start traversing upwards? Many a success story has been foiled by the inability to start from the bottom. When you find your passion, or it finds you, there should be no limit to the amount of Sweat Equity you are willing to pour into it, with the only return being experience and perseverance.

Sweat Equity is a check written to your passion, backed by effort, and cashed by progress. It’s what you are driven to do by your purpose, and what you are compelled to sacrifice in order to breathe life into a passion you have not yet mastered. But signing a check over to your passion will always come at the cost of your ego. Making that investment while thinking you deserve more because of your resume, experience, or pride, instead of effort, will only result in a bounced check and some hurt feelings.

In any situation, you must learn to follow before you can lead. Implementing humble followership into the ascent towards your passion is the quickest way to seamlessly build Sweat Equity in whatever it is you see as your vision for the future. It may not be glamorous, it may feel beneath you, and it probably won’t resemble success in the least, but it is in this time and place where you will learn that although you cannot put a price on your passion, it will most definitely come at a worthwhile cost. The difference is, with this check…you decide how much there is in the bank. – CPT Ryan

For Your Validation

What is it about validation that consumes so much of what we decide to do, or not to do, in our lives? How does it penetrate our subconscious on an almost primordial level, causing us to sometimes crave it more than our own goals and dreams? It is an uneasy feeling that can come with the realization that there is no existing blueprint for life and that you are the one calling the shots, albeit from the seat of your pants. From this uneasiness, the need for validation, acceptance, and even permission, are born into your everyday psyche, stifling the very fabric of who you are.

Validate yourself by accepting the fact you don’t need permission to be yourself, chase your own dreams, or set your own goals. Searching for the validation of others, all while dismissing your own, will only cause you to see your success through their unqualified lenses. Achieving success in their eyes will leave you unfulfilled, and success in your eyes will feel like failure without their support. This vicious cycle of nonfulfillment and perceived failure can only result in the toxic depreciation of your own self-worth.

Stop delaying your growth, debilitating your dreams, and depreciating your worth while you wait on somebody else to tell you you’re okay. The only person you need the green light from is you. Yes, you’re going to need support, help, and constructive criticism along the way, but those are enablers to your momentum. Your success is based on your seat of the pants version of what gives you fulfillment and purpose. It may not be perfect, it may be far-fetched, and it probably won’t make complete sense, but the only way you will ever validate your own blueprint is to get started, while leaving your need for validation at the drawing table.

Excuses vs. Challenges

There will always be an out. There will always be some reason why you can’t, more than enough evidence to prove why you shouldn’t, and plenty of justification as to why you won’t. The case will be presented as clear and convincing, and beyond a shadow of a doubt. Where you’re from, who your parents are, physical and intellectual obstacles or limitations, your income, your past, and your failures, will all be entered into evidence in order to show why they should be deemed excuses as opposed to challenges you can overcome through passionate intestinal fortitude.

Life, family, friends, and your mind, will always give you an out. There will always be more reasons to make it an excuse than there will be to make it a challenge, which will all conspire to create a persuasive case aimed at empowering your excuse. But just as they can empower your excuse, they can also channel your challenge, foster your focus, and determine your drive if you are willing to harness the value in success through adversity.

In the courtroom of life, you are the judge, jury, and executioner, presiding over the case of Excuses V. Challenges. Except in this courtroom, your future is on trial. There will be far more arguments made in defense of labeling all of your adversity as an excuse, but the true adversity lies in proving why those excuses are nothing more than challenges waiting to become the hallmarks of your successes. Defy the odds by defining the odds, and decide to reject the excuses in favor of accepting the challenges without any further objection, because if you don’t, this case will never be adjourned. – CPT Ryan

Lead Your Life

There is management, and there is leadership. There are levels and variations of the two, but they all eventually boil down to one or the other at some point. Management is all about status quo; nothing more, nothing less. It hides behind policy, procedure, and routine. It is all output, with no input. There is no room for growth, no chance for change, and development is out of the question. Leadership, however, challenges the status quo. It gallantly displays passion, purpose, and the unprecedented. It is all about inspiring output through constant input with limitless room for growth, an insatiable hunger for change, and a drive for development.
As much as it may seem the principles of management and leadership apply only to bosses and subordinates, it actually starts with you and your life. If you feel stagnant, if you aren’t reaching your goals, if you are getting passed by your peers; you need to ask yourself if you are managing your life, or if are you leading your life. Are you waking up, mindlessly going through the motions, and getting the same result at the end of each day with little, to no, fulfillment? If so, it’s time to move from middle management, to CEO of your life so you can start making moves “Like a Boss.”

Become the leader your life deserves. Lead your own personal research and development, craving inspiration and input from anything and anyone. Be your own recruiter, surrounding yourself with the best and brightest who share your fire for self-development. Create your own brand, establishing your vision and your values you want to be defined by. Spearhead your own marketing, which will convey to the world who you are and why you deserve to be here. Once you have established you can lead your own life, you will find yourself prepared and empowered to lead and inspire others to embark on the same journey, because that’s really what leadership is all about. – CPT Ryan
